Aviation Development Australia

The principal purpose of Aviation Development Australia limited is to promote the development of aviation.

The corporation is a not-for-profit subsidiary of Aerospace Maritime and Defence Foundation of Australia Limited.

The core activity of Aviation Development Australia Limited is to stage the biennial Australian International Air Show at Avalon Airport, Victoria as the centrepiece of its AirShows DownUnder program.

First conducted in 1992, the Australian International Air Show is recognised as one of the world's major air shows. A uniquely multi-faceted event, it comprehensively encompasses the complete spectrum of aviation - from military and commercial, through civil and corporate to sporting, recreational and general aviation.

Developed from the Australian Bicentennial Air Show in 1988, the AirShows DownUnder have also included the RAAF 70th Anniversary Air Show at Richmond in 1991 and the Federation AirShows in the OutBack in central Oueensland during 2001.

In succeeding to this AirShows DownUnder tradition, Aviation Development Australia Limited envisages an ongoing program of events which focus attention on aviation and promote its development through cooperative partnerships with aviation industry groups and the Australian Defence Force (particularly the Royal Australian Air Force).

The Board of the Foundation currently comprises Ian Smith (Chairman), Air Marshal Les Fisher AO, RAAF (Rtd); Rear Admiral David Holthouse AO, RAN (Rtd) and Ian Honnery (Chief Executive).
