Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) Western Operations
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) was first established in WA in 1934 by the Reverend John Flynn, under the name of the Australian Air Medical Service.
The first Western Australian Base opened was in Wyndham, followed closely by Port Hedland in 1935. In 1955 the Victorian section of the RFDS adopted the Kimberley and opened the Derby Base.
Western Operations was founded in 1995 to bring the bases under one banner and to provide a single approach to the management and delivery of health services throughout the entire state of Western Australia.
