Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) South Eastern Section
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is the first, largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation in the world.
Using the latest in aviation, communication and medical technology, we bring an extensive healthcare network to those who live, work and travel throughout regional Australia and the vast Australian Outback. Without the comprehensive health service that we provide, much of the Outback would be virtually uninhabitable.
The RFDS South Eastern Section is responsible for delivering medical services to rural and regional NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, south west Queensland and northern South Australia.
While emergency aeromedical retrieval remains our primary focus, we also provide an extensive network of comprehensive primary healthcare services.
We operate bases at Broken Hill, Dubbo, Bankstown, Mascot, Essendon and Launceston.
We employ a total of 189 staff, including 35 doctors, 21 nurses, seven medical specialists, one dentist, 54 pilots, 24 engineers, two radio staff and various administrative and fundraising staff.
Although we receive some government funding, we must also rely on the generosity of corporations, organisations and individuals to help us replace our aircraft and purchase medical supplies and vital life-saving equipment.
