BAE Systems Regional Aircraft

Regional Aircraft, part of BAE SYSTEMS, is a leading provider of regional aircraft and support services to regional airlines throughout the world, with some 800 aircraft and more than 160 customers in 80 countries. Its aircraft, including the Jetstream family, the ATP, BAe146 and Avro RJ continue to be key drivers in the growth and development of regional airlines. Success of these aircraft in today’s competitive market is a tribute to their original design and the integrated support provided by Regional Aircraft today.

Regional Aircraft’s customer base continues to grow with current customers extending their contracts and new customers signing long-term aircraft lease and support packages. This continued business growth results from the successful drive to reduce operational costs and Regional Aircraft’s ability to meet the demanding service levels today’s customers have come to expect.

In the Australian market Regional Aircraft products continue to operate successfully and to find new customers. The BAe 146/Avro RJ regional jets have long been a mainstay of National Jet Systems, which has 14 aircraft in operation. Eleven of these are leased from Regional Aircraft and extensions on four of them were signed recently. These passenger aircraft are used to service major mining companies’ air transport requirements in Western Australia and on scheduled services to Australia’s Island territories of Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling Islands). Freighter versions are used on the Australian air Express overnight operations on the east coast where the supreme quietness of the aircraft makes it the only jet freighter allowed to use Sydney during curfew hours.

Regional Aircraft also has supplied a number of 18/19-seat Jetstream 32 regional turboprops for service throughout Australia. A new customer is International Air Parts which is acquiring seven aircraft, some of which will be used by its wholly-owned subsidiary Aeropelican Air Services Pty Ltd to replace the airline’s fleet of Metro 23 and Embraer Bandeirante aircraft.

Support services available in Australia for Regional Aircraft products include a BAe 146 simulator that is located at Tullamarine Airport, Melbourne and operated by the Ansett Flight Simulator Centre, and MRO capabilities by NJS, Hawker Pacific and Ansett Engineering Services. Customer Support continues to develop its business and products with a specific focus on driving down product costs. This cost-down focus and competitive integrated support product will support the BAE SYSTEMS fleet of aircraft for years to come.

The Asset Management business is an acknowledged pioneer and leader in asset management with a trading portfolio of around 300 aircraft, being the world’s largest regional aircraft lessor by fleet size and the second largest regional jet lessor by fleet value. Asset Management ensures the aircraft portfolio continues to provide a competitive product to the market place whilst developing new opportunities and markets. Freighter applications of the ATP and also the BAe146 and Jetstream 41 are being offered to the market to meet the growing freighter demand.

The Engineering team, with its total aircraft capability, is key to supporting the in-service fleet and providing the long-term product integrity. This engineering expertise has been used to develop variants of existing products such as the ATP Freighter, Jetstream 41 Freighter and BAe 146 Atmospheric Research Aircraft. The considerable expertise gained from the Nimrod MRA4 programme is being employed to win third party revenue, with successes with a number of aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturers.

Regional Aircraft is, and will continue to be, a leading player in the airline industry drawing on its depth of experience to deliver a strategy of growth and innovation.
